Anthony Bellemare Art Show

2014-03.jpg

PUSH Gallery is proud to present Just Looking-new portrait/street photography by Anthony Bellemare. The opening reception is Friday, March 7 from 7-10pm. Just Looking will be on display from March 7 until April 14. Come one and all. Refreshments graciously provided by Asheville Pizza and Brewing.

Anthony Bellemare, who makes his home in Asheville, NC, uses the camera as a means of capturing, creating and relaying moments — of place and person, and always in time. His photographs take note of brief sidewalk encounters and small-town city life, all in-passing. “I strive to make images that are anchored in a moment,” says Bellemare. “I enjoy wandering with intention, noticing a coincidence and following a hunch, and never wasting an opportunity.”

During the last 5 years Bellemare has contributed photographs for Verve, Bold Life and the Mountain Xpress and will be featuring portraits in the Asheville Citizen Times during an upcoming, month-long photography column entitled “Living Portraits” Just Looking is Bellemare’s second solo exhibition. Ursula Gullow Art Show

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

November 9th – January 8th
Artist Reception is Friday November 9th 7pm – 10 pm

Gullow’s newest series of paintings is based on photographs taken of her and her five siblings during the mid 70’s. KIN is a personal exploration of the intersection between memory and documentation. The creation of each painting is the materialization of shadowy recollections merging graphite, acrylic and oil mediums, and many are larger than life-size.

For “KIN” Gullow will also install a collection of used artist palettes amassed over the last year. Says Gullow, “Just as my used palettes evidence activity of paint-mixing that I hardly remember, my paintings are evidence of a time I barely remember, but was, indisputably, a part of.

Ursula Gullow is a visual artist who has been investigating the potency and limitations of paint for nearly 12 years. Known primarily for her narrative paintings, Gullow frequently challenges traditional structures of painting by incorporating installation and interactive elements in her work which one critic describes as “folksy, epic and quietly revolutionary.”

Whatever it is, the way you tell your story online can make all the difference.

Tom Pazderka (b. 1981) is a Czech born conceptual artist, painter, sculptor and musician. His work focuses on suppressed and idiosyncratic aspects of Western culture, particularly the American culture he adopted upon immigrating to the US eighteen years ago. Tom began drawing at the side of his maternal grandmother in the Soviet housing blocks of his childhood village outside Prague. His first art exhibition was in a group show in New York City in 1994, shortly after his arrival in the U.S. His work has been exhibited in a number of galleries and museums since then. In 2011, one of his pieces hanged alongside such greats as Kenneth Noland, Helen Frankenthaler, Hans Hoffman and Pat Passlof. He lives and works in Asheville, North Carolina.

Reception will be from 7-10. Music by Shane Perlowin at 7:30. Beverages graciously provided by Foothills Brewery.
